I just recently started shopping at the bakery outlet store and I gotta say, I kinda loave it. It’s now my go to place when I need bread and I haven’t found it on markdown at my regular grocery stores.
I just went this last week and scored eight loaves of Oroweat bread and one package of english muffins (so nine items) for only $11.59. That makes them only $1.29 each.
These varieties of bread can easily be $2.50-$4 in regular grocery stores. The “best buy” dates are generally closer than they are at regular grocery stores, but I just take them home and throw them in the freezer. I’ve never had a problem with them.
You’d be surprised what you can find at bakery outlets. It’s more than just bread. My store has bread, buns, english muffins, sandwich rolls, cookies and even Bob’s Red Mill products!
Now all outlet stores probably have their own promotions, so check with your local store. Here are some that are available at my local store (Oroweat Bakery Outlet, on Martin in Lacey, WA).
- Punch card – Earn punches for the amount you spend and when you fill up the card, you get a FREE item.
- Double punch day – Mondays earn double the punches on your punch cards
- Spend $10, get a FREE item
My store also had a calendar for $0.99 and it has a coupon for each month. I think there is also a Franz outlet in town and I hope to check that out one of these days.
If you like to make your own bread, you should check out the roll recipe I posted recently.

We go to the Merita Bakery Outlet in Waterford Lakes, Orlando and get loaves for 79cents to $1 plus each. And of course we freeze them. However we do need to get a stand alone freezer.

We shop at the Franz outlet and LOVE it!!! I also put the extra bread and english muffins in the freezer and they are fine…and they have the FREE rack where based on how much $$ you spend, you get to pick a few things off there…and you can’t beat FREE š

I have shopped at the Franz outlet for years! I rarely buy bread at grocery store because I can get the exact same thing for 1/4 of the price. I love their Bainbridge Island cinnamon bread and french rolls. It’s a great place to pick up buns for the bbq and treats for a large group. They sometimes have buy 5 get 5 free, then you are really rolling in the dough! š

Totally my favorite place, too. I always go on “double stamp,” day. Mine also has a, “Happy Hour,” when you get to pick a select item for Free.
I love free!
I’ve noticed bread has really gone up at the grocery store, so this has become a weekly stop for us.
