Red Plum (Valassis) pulls out of Everett Herald newspaper
It’s a sad day if you live in the Everett Herald delivery area. Reports are coming from the Everett Herald that Red Plum has decided NOT to renew its contract with the paper and will NO LONGER be available in the Herald. The Red Plum is also not available in the Seattle Times, which means the last remaining major paper to carry Red Plum in the Puget Sound is the Tacoma News Tribune.
If you live in the Tacoma News Tribune area – count your lucky stars that we still get it. It sounds like Red Plum is moving away from newspaper delivery and wanting to focus more on printable coupons (wwww.Redplum.com) and mail delivery (some areas get these on Tuesday/Wednesday with grocery ads).
What can you do if you are lamenting the loss of your Red Plum insert? You can call Red Plum at (877) 823-7119 or email them at wecare@redplum.com. Or there is always the Red Plum Facebook wall. Be constructive and explain how you will miss the Red Plum and that you hope they reconsider including it in your Sunday paper.
Do I think you should still subscribe? Yes, you can still get the Everett Herald for less than $1 a copy and even with only the Smart Source insert it will pay for itself. Weekends like this past one had over $200 worth of coupons and only a small portion of that was due to the Red Plum.
I’m going to see if I can’t track down more information in the coming days. I’d like to know why they are choosing to pull out of such major markets – seems like it would not be a good business move, but of course there is always more to the story. Stay tuned!

FYI – I live in the Seattle Area where we get the Red Plum delivered and not in the paper. I asked my letter carrier for any extras of the Red Plum. She said that technically they don’t have ‘extras’ as they receive them all addressed to “Resident” with the specific addresses.
So – best bet is talk to your neighbors or dumpster dive the post office recycle bin. I had heard that the dumpster diving was illegal though but can’t remember why.
Is there a website where I can search what store have the Tacoma Tribune?
I only know of one Safeway that carries it. There is another Safeway about 5miles away and they dont carry it. Been to 3 other ones today and none of those carry it either.

I get the Red Plum delivered in the mail every Tuesday. Luckily, because I live in an apartment complex, there is a recycling bin right next to the mail boxes and everyone throws theirs in it. So I can just pick up as many as I want!
