Safeway has Azumaya tofu on sale for $1 through November 6. I think this is a great price, but it gets even better because there is a $1.25/2 Azumaya coupon supposedly coming in this weekend’s Red Plum insert!
Azumaya tofu – $1
Buy two, for $2
Use $1.25/2 coupon from 10/16 Red Plum insert
Final price = 2 for $0.75 cents or 38 cents each!
I hope we get it in the Tacoma News Tribune (which should have nearly $200 worth of coupons by the way). Check out our other Safeway deals of the week here.
And I recommend trying out my Hot & Sour soup recipe. . . it’s the perfect solution for that head cold!

Last time Safeway had this for $1 each I stocked up and just finished the last package a week ago.
I don’t know if tofu freezes well, but I doubt it. It has alot of water in it. But I have frozen meals that had tofu pieces in them, and they seemed to be ok. Not very helpful, I know. 🙂

Ok, here’s a real answer! Yes, you can freeze tofu. Take it out of the packaging (which has water in it) and wrap it up to freeze like you would anything else. When you use it later it will have a different texture than it would had it not been frozen, more chewy and dense, which could be a good thing for alot of recipes.
I recommend firm or extra firm for almost everything, unless you’re making a dessert or something that needs to be creamy, and then I recommend silken.

Yes, there is a $1.25/2 coupon in my Red Plum. I get it in the mail on Tuesdays.
Thanks for the heads-up on this deal! I’ve been thinking about making some meatless meals.
