I just got home from a BIG shopping trip to my local QFC, which for those of you in other areas of the country is a Kroger-family store. They are having a HOT Buy 6, Save $3 promotion, plus some other solid deals – so I stocked up on a lot of items today. You might want to check your local Kroger to see if they have similar discounts!
For sharing purposes, I’m breaking my trip into a few sections – because you can do any or all of these mini promotions/sales when you go shopping.
First off the Barilla pasta sale is definitely stock-up worthy. I got 10 boxes of pasta for $1.90 out of pocket – wahooo!
Barilla Pasta – $0.69 when you buy as part of buy 6, save $3 promotion
$1/3 Barilla Whole Grain, Veggie, White Fiber, or Gluten Free Pasta
0.75/2 Barilla Plus, Veggie, Whole Grain, Gluten Free, or White Fiber Pasta; Available at Walmart
$1.00/2 Barilla Proteinplus, Whole Grain, Veggie, White Fiber, or Gluten Free Pasta – 1-4-15 RP (exp 03/31/15)
Final Price = as low as $0.19
*stock-up price!
Paid $1.90 for everything pictured above
There are three great catalina promotions going right now. Catalinas are coupons that print out at checkout on receipt-like paper. In this instance, when you buy certain items, you get a catalina for a certain amount off your next purchase.
DiGiorno Pizza – $3.99 when you buy as part of buy 6, save $3 promotion
Buy 4 (plus 2 other participating items)
Use (2) $2.00/2 DiGiorno Pizzas – 1-25-15 RP (exp 02/28/15)
Use $2.00/2 Digiorno Large Pizza <–direct link
or $2.00/2 DiGiorno Large Pizzas – QFC Digital Coupon (exp 04/01/15)
or $2/2 Digiorno Large Pizza
Pay $2.99 each, Receive $3 catalina
Final Price = It’s like paying $2.24 each after catalina
Barbara’s Cereal – $2.49 when you buy as part of buy 6, save $3 promotion

or $1.00/1 Barbara’s Product, 4.4 oz or Larger; Boost to $2.00/1
or $1.50/1 Barbara’s Snackimal Cereal; Boost to $2.25/1
Pay as low as $1.98, Receive $2 catalina
Final Price = it’s like getting them FREE after catalina
Lean Cuisines – $2 each (not part of buy 6, save $3 promotion)
Buy 10 of them for $20
Use two (2) $1.00/5 Lean Cuisine Varieties, 5 – 16 oz – 1-4-15 SS (exp 03/31/15)
Pay out of pocket – $18, get $3 off your next order
Final price = it’s like paying $1.50 each after catalina
Paid $32.19 for everything pictured above, received $7 in catalinas to use on next purchase – it’s like paying $25.19! This would retail for closer to $55 without coupons or sales (pizzas $5.99, Barbaras $4.99, Lean Cuisines $2)
And I was excited to find these markdowns in the deli area. I found bags of Organic Valley Monterey jack cheese for $1.99 (reg. $5.99) and Organic Prairie smoked turkey for $1.99 (reg. $9.59!!). The turkey is dated Jan. 26, 2015 – so I’ll freeze it until we’re having sandwiches. The cheese is good until Feb. 1 – and it also will freeze beautifully, especially because it’s already shredded. The Crumbled Goat Cheese was marked down to $1.35 – this stuff is delicious if you mix it with warm pasta, cannelini beans and sundried tomatoes. Or sprinkle on salads!
*Keep in mind – manager markdowns vary by store. There is no guarantee you’ll find similar ones at your local store. It’s always a luck-of-the-draw sort of thing. I can’t even nail down when to exactly find markdowns – it’s different every day depending on staffing, products expiring, packages/marketing changes, etc. But usually, I can almost always find something marked down – every trip! The trick is taking the markdowns and figuring out how to turn them into meals!
I also took advantage of whole roasting chickens on sale for $0.99/lb – a whole chicken for $5.40. I hope to update my post on cooking a whole chicken in the crockpot this week – with new images and notes. It’s such a great way to make up a chicken for the week! I also LOVE to buy two chickens and roast them together – it’s twice the meat (and meals) but only slightly more work to roast two chickens at once. And the same amount of dishes – which aren’t my favorite. 🙂 Sneaky huh?
And because I’m always good for random tangents, I noticed organic broccoli was $1.99/lb and conventional was $2.49/lb. You should always check/compare! It’s easy to assume organic will always be the more expensive option, but sometimes you’ll find yourself surprised!
