My Safeway Trip only $0.96 cents – FREE cards, FREE soda, FREE hearts

safeway-hallmark-promotion

I just got back from Safeway and I think I did pretty great! I spent only $0.96 cents on everything pictured above, after you figure in the $5 catalina I have in  my pocket! The Hallmark cards alone would be $11.94 regular price!

Here’s how I did it:
Through February 14, 2013, when you buy 3 Hallmark cards you get a $5 catalina coupon that prints at checkout that you can use on a future transaction! Combine it with a coupon for the cards and here is how it shakes out:

Transaction #1

Buy 3 Hallmark cards at $1.99 = $5.97 (offer excludes $0.99 cards)
Use $2 off 3 Hallmark card printable coupon (does not limit to one per person, could print multiples just change quantity at print)
Pay $3.97 out of pocket

Transaction #1 total = $3.97 + tax out of pocket

Out pops a catalina for $5 off your next purchase!

Trasnsaction #2

A&W, 7Up, Canada Dry or Sunkist TEN 2-liter soda – FREE with Just for U e-coupon, Limit 1

Fresh Express Spring Mix Clam Shell - $4.99
$2/1 Fresh Express Just for U e-coupon {personalized deal}
Final price = $2.99

Buy 3 Hallmark cards at $1.99 = $5.97 (offer excludes $0.99 cards)
Use $2 off 3 Hallmark card printable coupon (does not limit to one per person, could print multiples just change quantity at print)
Final price = $3.97

Transaction subtotal = $6.96
Paid with $5 catalina from first purchase
Paid = $1.96 plus tax out of pocket

So I paid $3.97 and $1.96 out of pocket = for a total of $5.93 out of pocket
And I left with a $5 catalina off my next purchase!

It’s like paying $0.96 cents plus tax for everything!

I stopped by Safeway on my home from an appointment, instead of making a separate trip. This really does help our budget – because when you drive to the store for free items, they are never quite free (sorry, but true!) after you figure the cost of gas.

As for the free Sweathearts. . . my son found $0.34 cents in the parking lot on our way into the store. The Sweethearts happened to be on sale 3/$1 or $0.34 each. So guess what he got? I’m always telling him to look up in the parking lots – so he is aware of his surroundings, but apparently it paid off today. He told his dad when we got home that he “found millions of dollars” in the parking lot and that he was going to save him some of the candies he bought, but he forgot.

Oh and that would be blue marker on his face and hand, not a mustache.

Comments

  1. There is also a j4u $1 off 1 Hallmark Valentine card that stacks. (Limit 1)

  2. Do you know if it will work to roll the catalina? So if I use one catalina on the next purchase of cards will I receive another catalina?

  3. Nice story:) I tried to use the hallmark coupon and it wouldn’t scan and the checker I had wouldn’t take any printable coupons that wouldn’t scan :(

    • There are two codes on the hallmark coupon. Make sure to ask your cashier to scan the other barcode if the first code didn’t scan in.

  4. There is a $2/1 clamshell salad in the February fresh idea magazine.

  5. Great shopping & super cute kiddo!
