NEWS flash! Use Harbor Freight 20% off coupon at Lowe’s. . .

Why didn’t I know this sooner? After posting about building my chicken coop this week – my friend Celia said, “Don’t forget to use the Harbor Freight 20% off coupon when you shop at Lowe’s!” What!? Say what?! I had no idea, did you!?

I know that Lowe’s and Home Depot take competitors coupons – but those are fairly rare and are usually no more than 10% off. But the 20% Harbor Freight coupons are in our Sunday inserts on a regular basis! In fact, you’ll find one in the Smart Source insert today.

I confirmed it and used a 20% off Harbor Freight coupon at my local store. I tried to use it on flowers, but they said it should be used on tools or another item that you’d find at Harbor Freight, which makes sense.

Read the fine print on the coupon – the same will apply at Lowe’s. The one I used says “Cannot be used with any other discount or coupon. Not valid on gift cards, Inside Track Club membership, extended service plans, Compressors, Generators, Tool Cabinets, Tool carts, Welders, Floor Jacks, Campbell Hausfelt products, open box items, Parking Lot Sale items, Day After Thanksgiving Sale items, Tent Sale items, 800 number orders or online orders. Limit one coupon per customer and one coupon per day.”

But it should work on the majority of products you’d buy at Lowe’s! If you aren’t sure, ask at customer service before you do your shopping!

You may also be able to use this at Home Depot. They also take competitor’s coupons. AND don’t forget, the Harbor Freight ad does have FREE coupon items pretty regularly. Like today there is a coupon for a FREE flashlight, regular $6.99, with any purchase! You could use this at Harbor Freight, probably not Lowe’s, but that’s a great deal.

I need to know if you have any other secrets like this up your sleeves? How do you save at Lowe’s and Home Depot?

And don’t forget, Amazon has some incredible prices on tools and hardware, too!

  1. I just snagged a Dewalt DWS780 Miter Saw ($599 normal price) at Lowes for $307.85. Lowe’s just marked this down to $509 (saw it on their site…store had not posted the mark down yet. I used a Harbour Freight 25% off coupon from a mailer I just received and charged it to my Lowes card for another 5% off. Net…I got a top of the line $600 saw for $300. It doesn’t get any better than this. Thanks to this forum for the idea of using the HF coupon. Would NEVER have even crossed my mind otherwise! Merry Christmas!

  2. The coupon must be used on a competing item from a competitor. But Lowes and Home depot have now taken the stance that the quality of the products at HF do not compete with the products they offer and are no longer accepting the HF coupons. There were memos at both companies sent out to all store locations and very shortly you will find it hard to use the HF coupons. Also the fine print says its one item only not a purchase so you may have got lucky.

  3. I had the same issue when going into the Lacey Lowe’s. Customer service cashier told me that the manager would allow it this ONE time but they do not take Harbour Freight 20% off coupon at any time. She had to call, two different managers to get that answer. It was confusing and I had been so excited, since I have gift cards to use there too. Bummer! Oh well, one time is better than none!

  4. Amanda M. says:

I went to the Lowes on Yelm Highway today and the store manager said to me “Why on earth would we take those coupons, they have them out every single week in the paper.” I just kindly replied that I could use it at this store or another close by or go to Home Depot. It really doesn’t matter to me. I have over $400 in gift cards to use so I will gladly take it to another store. I couldn’t believe how rude he was. Do you shop at the Lowes on Martin Way?

    • Seriously? Their coupon policy does not say that they will only accept “rare” competitor’s coupons. The frequency of the Harbor Freight coupon should not matter one iota – it’s a competitor – if you’re buying a product also sold there.

I was able to use it at the Martin way store and they were super friendly about it.

  5. Hi…Over on WildforWags she posted something about Home Depot coupons… I think you sign up and receive them in the mail. Might be worth checking out. :)

  6. Wow!! Do we think this would work on a weed whacker?

  7. I know that Home Depot takes Lowes coupons and so I wonder if Home Depot will start allowing Harborfrieght coupons too. i’m going to call and ask.

  8. What?? Oh my, I wish I had known this ages ago! Oh well, better late than never:)
