Here are a few opportunities to earn cash or rewards by completing surveys or participating in programs from home. You surely won’t get rich quick with these programs, but if you have the time, you can easily make some extra cash or earn rewards for your time.
Nielsen Consumer Panel – As a member of the Nielsen Home Scan Consumer Panel you scan your grocery purchases and submit them to Nielsen to earn points, which can be redeemed on prices such as electronics, household items, jewelry, toys, gift cards and more. This is ideal for people who have extra time to scan your shopping trips when you get home (they provide a scanner that is fairly intuitive). I’ve done this is the past, but since I already usually blog about my shopping trips, I didn’t want to report them as well. Reviews are either – you love it or hate it. If you’re looking for a little extra it might be worth trying it out. You can always return the scanner if you find it’s not a good fit. This is a legit program that has been around for ages – operated by Nielsen, a national company that collects consumer data/statistics. Learn more about the Nielsen Home Scan Consumer Panel here
Morningstar Fresh Ideas Panel – MorningStar Farms has created a Fresh Ideas Panel – a group of people who provide feedback about products. Answer questions and complete surveys to be entered to win cash prizes as much as $100. I have personally signed up for this panel. Learn more about the MorningStar Farms panel here.
MySurvey – MySurvey.com is for people who want to influence future products and services by answering surveys and providing feedback on products. By sharing your opinions about products and services, you are rewarded with Reward Points to redeem for cash and merchandise. I’ve also been a member of this in the past! Learn more about MySurvey.com here.
OpinionOutpost – Opinion Outpost conducts surveys because businesses, governments, public bodies, and similar organizations are interested in the views and attitudes of the people who use their products and services. By taking surveys you can earn cash, Amazon gift cards, game points, donations to your favorite charities, and more. Everyone is also automatically entered to a $10,000 sweepstakes by joining and taking surveys. The minimum cash out for Paypal is $10 and only $5 for Amazon gift cards. Learn more about OpinionOutpost here.
Ipsos i-Say Young Adults – If you are 18 – 30 years old, you can qualify for Ipsos i-Say Young Adults. As part of the Ipsos i-Say Community, you get to see new products and ideas before anyone else. When I was, ahem, younger, I was a member of this as well. Learn more about the Ipsos i-Say Young Adults here.
All of these programs have been around for awhile. I’ve signed up for all of them at some point or another – both as a way to make extra income and to make sure they were legit programs (otherwise, I wouldn’t feel comfortable sharing them with you).
Have you participated in any of these programs or have feedback about any of them?

I signed up for mturk.com last year and did well. It’s a website that other companies can use to hire people to do small odd ball assignments like looking up a website by typing a word into google, or the high paying jobs require transcribing audios or translating something from spanish to english and vice versa. If you have the skills this would work well for you.

I did the home scan as well and didn’t quite do 6 months as it was a LOT of work for nothing. They want you to scan everything you bring into your home. Think about this as you purchase, bring things home before signing up is my suggestion. Fuel, gifts, groceries, the coupons used & prices, etc. Was not for me!

I did the home scan for a while, but it was a lot more work than it was worth. I ended up returning the scanner after a couple months. I also do the ipsos, although I haven’t filled out a survey in a while (I get about 4-5 emails a day but haven’t had time to actually complete them).
Consumer Opinion Services (http://www.cosvc.com/main.html) is also a great company. I’ve done focus groups with them a couple times and pay really well (as in $50/hr well).
