Calling all teens, ages 13 and up, in Pierce County (Washington)! I’m excited to share with you Pierce County Library’s Teen Summer Challenge – a chance to complete fun activities, connect with other teens and win fun prizes – like Amazon gift cards or an iPad mini!
Here’s how it the Teen Summer Challenge works:
- Head over to the Spark a Reaction Teen Summer Challenge site
- Create an account (must be 13 years or older)
- Complete activities to earn badges, qualify for prizes and share your experience with other teens through regular meet-ups (must have library card to earn prizes)
These activities look like a lot of fun – I took a quick peek and found activities such as design a board game, create your own comic strip, design an outfit for a district in the Hunger Games, made a suit of armor using cardboard, create your own video game, write an original story and more!
New badges are released throughout the summer as participation grows (so tell your friends!). As of this week 10,000 activities have already been completed – so join the crowd and start earning badges yourself. Top point earners win an Amazon gift card and every completed activity is an entry to win an iPad mini (prizes courtesy of Pierce County Library Foundation).
The Teen Summer Challenge goes until August 31, 2014. This year’s theme Spark a Reaction has activities that focus on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math).
This is the third year that Pierce County library has offered this challenge for teens (how cool is that?). Last year the challenge earned Pierce County library a No. 7 spot on Clickipedia’s Top 25 Best Examples of Gamification in Business!
For more information and to get started earning badges visit the Teen Summer Challenge website.
And don’t forget the local library is a great place to go – whether you’re a teen, a toddler or too old to share your age. 🙂 They have air conditioning (cool off on these hot days), speakers/classes/programs for all ages, and enough books to keep your nose buried for the foreseeable future.
