Good morning!
I hope you had a nice weekend! We went down to the Portland, Oregon area to visit some friends and go to an annual Harvest party. They harvest all the apples from their orchard and everyone helps them make real apple juice with a 100+ year old cider press. It’s a lot of fun, have you done this before? But my daughter came down with a nasty cough, so we headed back a day early to rest up. It’s that time of year – so make sure and take care of yourself and stay healthy!
I went to Albertsons yesterday and did a doubler run. I had not been in a very long time but I figured there were enough variety of deals this week that I should be able to find something! And I did! I only spent $4.37 and got a couple bags of goodies.

Last day! Taste of Home is having it’s popular $5 cookbook sale, with cookbooks as much as $25 marked down to only $5. Use promo code LS129 for FREE shipping on orders of $25 or more.
The Minted.com deal is no longer valid – bummer! They changed it so you can now only use the refer-a-friend $25 credit on orders of $100 or more. I did hear from a lot of you that you were able to snag a good deal, though! We’ll post other holiday card deals as we find them – and we will!
RECIPES & MEAL PLANNING
Yesterday I listed out all the current turkey prices (at least locally) so you could decide the best place to buy a bird. I think it’s QFC at $0.49/lb with a $30 purchase (before coupons) because it really irritates me that stores require a massive purchase to get a decent deal. I think I will make a list of the best ham deals this week as well.
And speaking of QFC, only two more days for their massive Mega sale. It ends Tuesday. My local store had everything in stock (because they ROCK) so if you haven’t been yet, I recommend it.
We had slow cooker chicken and dumpling soup for dinner last night! It was just as good as the first time we had it.
I think I’m going to make a turkey this week. I want to try to brine one. I hear Alton Brown’s recipe is the best, so I’m going to give it a go. I’ll post about it later this week if it works.

I just got back from Salishan where I took advantage of one the deals that have been going on for the past few months. While my daughter and I enjoyed some quality time on the stormy Oregon Coast, we had NO access to the internet from our room and that was a real bummer. The access there is very spotty. Our room was pretty nice and the fireplace was awesome seeing as it was so cold outside. The stairwells outside the rooms are extremely dark and dangerous at night. It was a still a great value for the money.

The Alton Brown recipe is the best, but it’s kind of complicated, and a lot of steps. At least that’s my impression by just reading. Also saw the “Good Eats” show where he did it. I love him, tho!
