Good morning! In case you missed my note last weekend, Rise and Shine is a new morning post that I’ll be doing. It’s my way of having coffee with you and sharing a lot of information in one post (instead of many small posts or not at all). It should be posted by 5:30 a.m. most days (not everyday, some days I think I’ll sleep in.) Let’s rise, shine, and save together. 🙂
I hope you had a restful or productive weekend – whichever you needed. I cleaned and organized the garage yesterday – it was long overdue and it seems like it’s always needing to be cleaned. I generally don’t enjoy cleaning, but being organized usually saves me money. For example, yesterday I found a stash of baby wipes I had forgotten we had – so I didn’t need to make a last minute run to the store and pay full price. Have you had that happen before? Think you were out of something, buy it at full price because you needed it, only to find out you had it! Keeping your stockpile organized makes this less of a problem – and also helps you menu plan because you can see what you have on hand.
I’m excited to have opened a new giveaway yesterday for a one-night stay at the Resort at the Mountain, with a round of golf and cart (valued at $347). Make sure and enter – I’d love for you to win!
In my Family Fun magazine that came in the mail Saturday there is a really cute owl craft made out of toilet paper rolls and cupcake liners. Looks easy and inexpensive! Download owl instructions here (source: Family Fun magazine October 2012). I always feel a little more crafty when it’s crisp outside.
COUPONS
There are a TON of printable cleaning coupons this morning. There is one for $3 off any Scrubbing Bubbles One Step Starter kit, plus there is a $4 catalina back on your order when you buy this at Fred Meyer. So that makes $7 off just one! I heard from a reader that they are $10.99, so this would be only $3.99 after catalina and coupon. Did you know the Coupon Network is the place to go for current catalina offers? Enter your zip code and it will show you catalinas in your area. What are catalinas?
Print a coupon for 20% off your entire purchase at Party City (TODAY only). Might be good to use if you’re looking for a very specific costume that you won’t likely find on sale.
FAVORITE DEALS
Jo-Ann Fabric is doing a different deal every day this week. Today is 50% off basic glass containers. Maybe good if you know someone needing center pieces for an event.
Albertsons has Klondike bars and sandwiches for $1.88 each as their daily deal today.
Update! Got a report back from reader Rachel that it worked for her!
Safeway – I have NOT confirmed this deal and it’s a stretch, so I won’t do an individual post (unless I get good reports back!). Try at your own risk. Do you remember that $15 off $50 iTunes gift card e-coupon that Safeway put out a couple weeks ago? Well apparently they released another one! If you never used the first one, you might be able to load BOTH to your card and get $30 off a $50 iTunes gift card. It must be a $50 gift card, it cannot be two (2) $25 gift cards. Worst case you should get a $50 iTunes gift card for $35, but I will do a happy dance for you (to your free music, nonetheless) if it works and you get BOTH e-coupons off for a savings of $30 off a $50 iTunes gift card! I can’t try this since I used my last $15/50 iTunes card. Please try at your own risk, I can’t guarantee this will work and I’d hate for you to be out that extra $15 if you really need it. I don’t think you can return gift cards after they are purchased. See other Safeway deals here.
Fred Meyer – Wholly Guacamole is $1.50 and you can print this $1.50/1 Wholly product coupon to get it FREE! See other Fred Meyer deals here.
Groupon – Save 48% off Regal Cinema Movie Tickets!
$13 for two VIP Super Saver e-Tickets (up to a $25 value)
$26 for four VIP Super Saver e-Tickets (up to a $50 value)
Create Groupon account here, if you don’t have one. Then select Seattle as the City.
Vistaprint has Halloween tote bags for only $2. Shipping starts at $5.52, so you can get a customized bag for $7.52 shipped.
RECIPES & MEAL PLANNING
Last night we made a fresh apple and pork shoulder recipe in the crock pot, served over rice – so delicious and perfectly in season. It will be part of my Crock-tober series! The series starts October 1 and will be a full month of slow cooker recipes. Send in your recipe and you get a $10 Amazon gift card if I feature your recipe on the blog! And by the way, QFC has pork shoulder is on sale at QFC for only $1.49/lb through tomorrow.
I posted some meal planning ideas yesterday. I’d love to hear what’s on your menu for the week.
Oh and last night when I was Skyping with my mom (I love Skype!) she told me she made her famous popcorn balls and she sent me the recipe. . .so check back at 10:30 a.m. today for my mom’s Popcorn Ball recipe – it’s as easy as it gets and it’s yummy!

I did the iTunes deal this morning at 7.30am at a Safeway in kitsap county. The double dipping did NOT work. Only one $15 coupon was taken off. Thought I’d share in case it doesn’t work for others at some stores.
Heather says
Hi Vikki – I’m sooo sorry! Sounds like it worked for Brent at 9:30 a.m., not sure why it’s working for some and not others. $35 off $50 is still a great deal!
Kelli says
Hi Heather!
This is the first comment I am leaving on your blog, however, I have been following you daily (many times a day) for years! I truly love and appreciate your insights into daily/weekly deals. I wanted to let you know that I just got back from Safeway and sure enough the I-Tunes double up JUSTFORU deal WORKS!!! I got a $50 gift card for $20 bucks! My stepdaughter will sure appreciate that come Christmas time. Thanks for the heads up on the deal. You ROCK! Sincerely, Kelli
Heather says
Fantastic! Thank you Kelli, that’s great news. Thank you for leaving a comment and for being a loyal follower, I sure do appreciate it!
Margot says

Oh, and I like the new posts as well. Thanks Heather!
Rie says
Ok I didn’t use the iTunes that I loaded a couple weeks back and I just loaded the iTunes coupon for this week. Now when I look in my savings card I’m only seeing 1 iTunes coupon. For the people that tried it, did they actually see 2 iTunes loaded in their savings card?
Heather says
Hi Rie – You should see two coupons, yes. If you don’t, I wouldn’t risk it.
Tara E says
Love it! Looks great and easy to go through 🙂
Melanie says

Kerri says
Love this! How fun to have coffee and check out several good deals at one time. After coffee my day is often a blur of activity so it’s wonderful to wake up to something like this. Love the conversational tone, too! It feels like I’m chatting with a friend.
Heather says
Thank you, Kerri! That’s what I’m going for. 🙂
Chrystal says
Love the format, a lot of info so I can get the day going without checking back every hour
Heather says
Yep! That’s what I’m hoping for Chrystal! Hope you’re having a great day. 🙂
Kim says
Thanks for sharing the owl craft. In fact, I also just cut this out of my Family Fun magazine because it looks so cute, and I rarely do crafty things.
Heather says
I am the same way! I rarely cut things out, but it was too cute!
Joy says
Heather, just had to say I really like this post concept. I can only get on the web to check my reader early in the morning and late at night – this helps me prepare for the day and shows me immediately if there’s anything interesting to add to the list. Thanks so much!
Heather says
Joy – Thanks for the feedback! I hope to have it up by 5:30 a.m. every day. We will see how that goes, but I’m so glad that you like it. Have a great day!
Kelsey says
We moved to a house that has no storage space and a very tiny kitchen. Any links to organize small areas. I always try to find something but it always for spacious rooms.
Heather says
Sure Kelsey! I’ll keep my eyes peeled for things like that!
jessica says
