Rise and Shine is my way of sitting down and having a cup of coffee with you! We talk about the new deals of the day, highlights from yesterday, and anything else that might help us save time, money or energy. Published Monday through Friday – as I’m able.
Good morning! How was your weekend? I hope it was good. I barely blogged at all – which was long overdue and it meant I spent lots of quality time with my family. I’d love to hear what you did this weekend!?!
Friday afternoon the kids and I made cupcakes. They decorated them with way too many sprinkles 🙂 and brought them to a kid’s Christmas party they were headed to. The party was “parent’s night out” style – so my husband and I went on a rare dinner date for sushi – one of our favorites. I was so grateful all our shopping and holiday stuff was taken care of, so instead of heading to an overcrowded mall we could just enjoy a nice dinner together!
Saturday morning we loaded up the car and took a carload of toys to Toys for Tots. I’ll share more about the donation later, but the really fun part was spending Saturday morning volunteering with our kids sorting toys and matching them up with wish lists. The kids loved picking out toys from the donations and matching them up for kids who were their same age and who liked the same things they did! It was a great lesson for them in giving their time and we had a lot of fun as a family volunteering. I hope we can volunteer at more community events in 2015.
After volunteering we stopped by Goodwill, which was having a big 50% off sale! I found snow pants for the kids for $3-4 (barely worn and now we’re hoping it snows!) and some nice brand name clothing items for $1.99 – $2.50, including a silver holiday GAP dress for my daughter for $2.50, GAP jeans for my son $2.50, GAP rain jacket for my daughter (bigger size) for $3.99, Gymboree long-sleeve t-shirts $1.99, Land’s End collared shirt $2.49 and more. We so rarely buy new clothes for our kids anymore. Even if I shopped retail sales with coupons, there would be no way I’d get these kinds of bargains! Plus I enjoy the “treasure” hunt at the store.
Saturday night was movie night with homemade stovetop popcorn. And yesterday – did you watch that Seahawks game? I was whooping and hollering – what a game!
In terms of deals here on the blog this week – I’ll be posting if I see anything spectacular but family will come first. I’m sure you can understand. I hope to share some of my favorite recipes and I’ll be posting super deals, but I’m looking forward to soaking in this week before it’s gone and we head into the new year. 🙂

Thank you for all you and your team does for us Heather! I cannot believe it’s been about four or five years ago that you helped me out and shared your couponing tips at the Yelm Timberland Library. You’ve taught me so much. Happy Holidays to you and your family.
