Rise and Shine is my way of sitting down and having a cup of coffee with you! We talk about the new deals of the day, highlights from yesterday, and anything else that might help us save time, money or energy. Published Monday through Friday – as I’m able.
Good morning! How’s it going today? Feels like Friday to me today. But alas, it’s not. How has your week been going?
Last night, as a family, we headed to the local library to stock up on books for the long weekend. So many. good. books. My favorite are non-fiction – travel books, cookbooks, how to/DIY – I get so inspired walking through the non-fiction section. Have you read a good book lately?
Here’s a post on 5 Ways You Save by Using Your Public Library. I’m sure we could come up with a much longer list – what are missing in the list?
After the library we went out to dinner. We’ve only been out to dinner a few times in the last couple months and I was looking forward to a night of no cooking. I ended up finding a hair (that was obviously not mine) in my food. Uuuuugh. They offered to give me a 30% discount off my entree – even though I couldn’t eat it . . . and did I want to take the rest home, they asked? Ugggh, seriously? I generally try to avoid complaining – but I did ask to talk to a manager and she couldn’t help me either. Lesson learned and we just won’t eat there anymore. I suppose the silver lining is eating only part of my meal was better for my waistline. 🙂 And to keep things positive I’d love to hear about an amazing customer service experience you’ve had at a restaurant lately. . . .
And in other positive news I selected the winner for the $300 Great Wolf Lodge gift card. I’ve already connected with Karen and she’s so excited to take her family!

I’m just starting to read “Interrupted” by Jen Hatmaker. I’m only a chapter in but it’s so intriguing! It’s about how her laid back, Christian lifestyle was interrupted by Jesus calling her to do more. Or for something a bit less intense, i read “Escape” by Carolyn Jessop last fall. She writes about how she escaped the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints with her eight children. She was the 4th wife of a man 30+ years her senior and nearly lost her life many times. Very thought provoking. Sorry about your restaurant experience. It always hurts a little bit more when you know you don’t go out very often, and people aren’t very respectful of your time and money. I’d rather do dishes than not be able to eat dinner!

I get so grossed out when I find hair in my food. I have never had a restaurant be unreasonable about fixing it. I really would like to know what restaurant it was so I can avoid it. They really mishandled it. That’s such a bummer when you are looking forward to eating out.
Heather Clarke says
Oh Megan, it really is a gross thing. I realize we’re all human (cooks are human, too) and mistakes and things like this happen. I just wish the restaurant would have made it right by not charging me for a meal that I wasn’t able to eat.
