Rise and Shine is my way of sitting down and having a cup of coffee with you! We talk about the new deals of the day, highlights from yesterday, and anything else that might help us save time, money or energy. Published Monday through Friday – as I’m able.
Good morning! How was your weekend? Hope it was good. My daughter and husband had a father/daughter date on Saturday morning. My son and I stayed home and played Star Wars Monopoly – thanks to a great deal we found at Goodwill Friday night – just $3.99! My 7-year-old son was so excited. He LOVES Monopoly and we play many times a week – but to have a Star Wars edition – this was just EPIC, as he would say:) Have you found any secondhand bargains lately? I’d love to hear about them!
Saturday afternoon I made a trip to my local QFC grocery store. For those of you in other areas of the country – this is a Kroger-family store. They are having a fantastic sale this week! I shared some of the deals I found here – we are definitely stocked up for awhile in terms of easy frozen meals, cheese and pasta!
My daughter, enjoying her soup (she’s behind there somewhere!) and sandwich.
One of my favorite deals from QFC was Organic Prairie Smoked turkey meat on sale for $1.99 – thanks to a manager markdown. The sell by date was a couple days out – so we frozen two of the three packages. But for dinner Saturday night I made turkey sandwiches with Tillamok cheddar, avocado, tomatoes, pickles, mustard. Served with leftover soup . . . they were delicious and so SIMPLE. Sometimes I need to be remember myself that I don’t necessarily need to “cook” something for dinner – sometimes simpler is better!
And speaking of good deals – last Friday I stopped by a local produce stand to pick up some fresh food. Granny Smith apples were $0.59/lb, Fuji were $0.79/lb, limes $0.20, avocados $0.75 and peppers $1.99/lb. I got everything pictured above (top frame) for around $9. This was George and Son’s produce in Olympia, Washington. But I recommend looking for similar stands in whatever community you live – you might find the prices are more competitive than the grocery store. These can also be great places to get marked down produce (like juicing apples for $0.49/lb) and if you happen to have backyard chickens you can always ask if they have any produce they want to get rid of or plan to throw away that you can feed to your feathered friends. Worth asking. 🙂

I went to Goodwill yesterday and found a Circo kids suitcase for $5. It is in perfect condition! My 3 year old has been ‘packing’ all of his stuffed animals and ‘traveling’ all over the house. Similar ones at Target are $22.99. I love good finds at Goodwill!! 😉

That’s so much fun Mea! Why do kids love luggage so much? Great find!
