Rise and Shine is my way of sitting down and having a cup of coffee with you! We talk about the new deals of the day, highlights from yesterday, and anything else that might help us save time, money or energy. Published Monday through Friday – as I’m able.
Last year we lucked out with a beautiful sunny day for the birthday party. This year is not looking so good. 🙂
Good morning! How are you doing today? I need some ideas. . . I have my kid’s birthday party planned for Saturday and I was hoping for a beautiful day so we could be in the backyard for the party. But as luck would have it – Saturday is supposed to be rainy and 69 degrees (the first icky day in ages!). I had planned for the kids to play on the waterslide and run around in the backyard. Now I have to come up with a back-up plan – what are some indoor kid’s activities for birthday parties?? We don’t have a lot of space in the house so I’m trying to think of indoor games or activities for kids ages 7 and 4 that don’t take a lot of space. I appreciate your ideas!
Here is a post I wrote last summer – 10 Ways to Save on Kid’s Birthday Parties! We will be doing a lot of these same things this year to keep things frugal!

Maybe you could do a treasure hunt inside the house? We do one with the kids and at each clue the kids have to do something to be able to get their next clue. Like hop on one foot to the door where you will find your next clue, sing your favorite song while walking backwards to the kitchen. and then in the end each kid finds a small treasure which if your doing party bags maybe the treasure is thier party bag? the kids always have fun looking for treasure and the parents love watching the kids do funny things at each station. another thing we do is at each station each kid has their own clue so that way each kid is on the hunt rather than as a group

How about a Frozen Party as an alternative. Make a bunch of rice krispies treats and let them spread blue frosting and sprinkles on them. Also dip marshmallows in white chocolate and let them put sprinkless on those for ice cubes. All the kids seem to love Frozen right now. Sarah Barrand from Caldwell and a thrifty mom dot com entered a contest with her frozen party. All recipes and ideas are on her web. By the way, the Caldwell and Boise web sites aren’t posting the great grocery deals at Albertsons, Fred meyers and Costco like you still are. I really appreciate it, and love that you list good deals you find at Goodwill. Happy Birthday to both your chilluns.

I think a backyard party Rocks!. They require more time and sometimes even cost more than dumpin’ the kids at some place. Hurray for people that are reviving Backyard parties!!!

Hi Heather- love your website. Hire a face painter to come and paint all of the kids faces. I have seen a few at local fairs recently where they can come do birthday parties, and for additional costs they will come in costume and also help with games. I think they can do about 10-12 faces an hour. The only downside is that it is around $100, however if you know of some really artistic teenagers or adults, that might be willing you could pay a lot less.
