Rise and Shine is my way of sitting down and having a cup of coffee with you! We talk about the new deals of the day, highlights from yesterday, and anything else that might help us save time, money or energy. Published Monday through Friday – as I’m able.
Good morning! I’m starting to write this post at 3 a.m. this morning. I couldn’t sleep, so I figured I’d better get up and get some work done. The coffee is hot, the house is quiet and I’m on it. 🙂 We will have a different attitude around 2 p.m. today when I crash, but we’ll just go with it for now. Yesterday my sweet girl had her first day of preschool at a new school (she LOVED it) and today my son has his first day of First grade!
Yesterday I spent the day with my son and we has some big projects to tackle. He’s been a bit spooked at night – waking up afraid of the dark and the night light we got him just wasn’t cutting it. So we decided that we’d work together to rearrange his room yesterday – moving his bed and furniture around, cleaning his closet and reorganizing things to hopefully change things up enough that he’d get a different perspective and hopefully calm some of his night time fears. We went to Target and picked up a couple bookshelves – using a 20% off Room Essentials bookcase Cartwheel and a 20% off Target Room Essentials furniture printable coupon to get a smoking deal. Plus we used a 20% off lamp printable coupon to get him a new lamp (Seahawks blue!). Then we went over to Michael’s and used the 40% off coupon to get him a Seahawks poster – something that he loves to serve as a distraction if he wakes up spooked. For under $50 we have what feels like a completely new room and it was a special day putting it together with him. I’m happy to report he slept through the entire night (so far) without any issues. I’m hoping that this night time anxiety is just a manifestation of him being nervous about school and the changing of routine from summer to fall and that things will setting back in and we’ll all be getting better sleep soon. A clean, organized room is a positive side effect to a situation that’s been giving us a bit of angst lately. 🙂 I’ll see about sharing some pictures later.
And p.s. if you have a little one who might need a night light – I spotted Pillow Pets light up pillows at Ross for as low as $8.99! CRAZY super price and something that ends up on a lot of Christmas lists but deals can be rare during the winter. My local store had mostly girlish style pillows – pink unicorns, pink lady bugs, etc. But might be worth checking out if you’re in the market.
Between the first day of preschool, a complete room overhaul, 1st grade open house and blogging – I was about two seconds away from ordering pizza for dinner last night. But thankfully I reconsidered and pulled these Mozzarella Stuffed Turkey meatballs out of the freezer – tossed into some marinara sauce and served with pasta and steamed vegetables. This easily saved us $30 and only took about 10 minutes – long enough to boil pasta and heat up the meatballs and sauce. What are your favorite freezer meals?
And today I turn the ripe ole age of 34. It’s one of those birthdays that flies by because it seems to be during one of the busiest weeks of the year. I love this time of year – and wouldn’t change it for anything. I plan spend the day with my sweet girl who is home with me on Wednesdays, perhaps making a run to the grocery store, baking some cookies, take a nap, and I just might have the handsome husband pick up Indian food tonight – our favorite splurge. I am going to try and update our Birthday Freebies list this week – do you have any favorite birthday freebies that I should add?
Whew. I’m just a chatterbox when I wake up so early and drink all the coffee before my husband wakes up. 🙂 You still reading? Let’s get on to the deals. . .

What a great idea to re-arrange your son’s room instead of just blowing off his anxiety. Happy Birthday!
Mary says
Happy Birthday Wonderful Lady! I send you the best of wishes with a birthday filled with love and laughter. Since today is YOUR day, treat yourself to something.. a new blouse or purse… anything that says to you, that you love yourself just as much as others do. (that was the hardest thing for me to do… loving myself, and now at the beautiful age of 63, I love myself dearly and I make it a MUST that I buy myself something for a birthday gift to myself every year) Happy Happy Happy Birthday!

your idea about moving your son’s room around and redecorating was great; I raised 2boys-we never had an ‘I’m scared/there’s something under the bed’ problem but one never knows when a younger member of the family might come up with this problem
