This week was busy in the garden! I couldn’t help myself, I had to build two more raised beds. I figure the more grass I cover the less we have to mow. 🙂 And I’m just loving the harvests so much. So we built two more 8 feet by 4 feet raised beds (see raised bed tutorial here). They cost under $40 each, we had leftover dirt and we can now build them in under 30 minutes! We are getting this figured out.
We also flattened a big dirt mound that used to be a flower bed and we plan to plant pumpkins there! Hopefully this week we will get to it.
I harvested another round of bok choy this week, a handful of cilantro, some green lettuce, basil and radishes. I planted more green and red lettuce, spinach and purple carrots!
While many people are harvest snap peas, mine are behind the curve. I planted them late and only recently got around to putting up twine for them to climb – so they will be late bloomers. But I’m ready when they are!
You can see the dirt area in the front of this photo – it will be where we plant some blueberry bushes, pumpkins and maybe some squashes.
If you’re just now joining my gardening journey, I’m learning as I go grow and sharing along the way:
- First I built the raised beds
- Then I added dirt
- Then I added plants
- and for fun, we created a DIY Worm Compost Bin
- and then Mavis came and gave me some advice – um, give your plants some room
- Our first harvest, lettuce rejoice and be glad
How is your garden going? I’d love to hear what your planting, caring for and harvesting!
