Albertsons – Dreyer’s Ice Cream, get two for $5 AND get a $4 catalina at checkout (like $0.50 each!)

Updated – Thanks to Patrice for the tip about the $1/2 coupon from the 6/12 Smart Source! Get them for even less. . .
Updated again – This may or may not print at your store. Some stores have updated computer systems that will make the catalina print after only two, instead of the required four.

Big thanks to reader Kristen H for the emailing me  this afternoon about this HOT deal at Albertsons. She bought two Dreyer’s ice creams 1.5 quart for $6. Use the $1/2 coupon from the 6/12 Smart Source insert and pay only $5. AND then at checkout a $4 catalina, good off her next purchase printed out! That’s like paying $1 for two things of ice cream! Wahoo!

Here’s what it looks like:

Dreyer’s Ice Cream 1.5 quart – two for $6
Use $1/2 Dreyer’s Products 6/12/2011 Smart Source Insert
Pay $5 out of pocket

At checkout, get a cataline for $4 off your next purchase!
It’s like paying – $1 for two!

Plus, you can use your $4 catalina and purchase two more:

Two Dreyer’s ice creams – $6
Use $1/2 Dreyer’s Products 6/12/2011 Smart Source Insert
Give them the $4 catalina from first transaction
Pay $1 out of pocket

Get ANOTHER $4 catalina!

So the catalina is printing after buying only two, instead of four like the ad says. Your mileage may vary. The ad does say you need to buy four, so if it doesn’t work for you – I wouldn’t raise a stink. I think the difference is some stores have a newer computer system that bases the required purchase price (the minimum $12) off the shelf price, which is the “before sale” price. Whereas other stores have the older computer system which bases the minimum purchase (of $12) off of the sale price. Does that make sense? From what I understand Albertsons is moving to the NEWER system at more stores.

Wahoo. Time to stock up on ice cream. Try to refrain from taking more than your fair share, so everyone can get a piece of this ice cream pie. Oh and if you pick up some mint chocolate chip ice cream, you should think about making this Mint Chocolate Chip Oreo dessert I posted about last week.

What is a catalina? A catalina is a coupon that prints at the register on receipt-like paper. It is generally triggered by an item you purchase. It can be for a certain amount off a SPECIFIC product, or my favorite, just money off your next transaction. This catalina from this deal is money off your next transaction – you can use the $4 toward anything int he store! Catalinas are generally store specific, so if it prints at Albertsons, you’ll need to redeem it at Albertsons. HOWEVER, the exception is Fred Meyer, QFC (and I think other Kroger stores) do accept catalinas from other stores.

  1. Am I allowed to post a link? If you go to http://slickdeals.net/forums/showthread.php?t=1886936 and read the wiki…the second post of the thread…you will find a complete list of the Albertsons stores wih computer systems where the Dreyers promo will work. Note that these are the ONLY stores where the promo will work that way.

With doublers starting Sunday, the ice cream will be free at the listed stores.

  2. I bought 2 Dreyers yesterday and it did NOT work for me in Puyallup, WA (Canyon/Hwy 512).

  3. Is there a way to know if they have the new computers vs. the old ones?

  4. The add says get a $4 catalina when you buy $12 in Nestle products. That is wyb 4 Dreyer’s Ice Cream tubs not 2.

    • Hi John – I know, but for some it’s printing after two. From what I’m reading on some of the coupon discussion boards, it depends on your store’s cash registers. Some trigger after two, some trigger after four.

  5. Excellent! I have coupons (I can’t remember where I got them) to save $1/2.
