I stopped into Costco today for an epic shopping trip. Not only did I plan to fill our empty fridge but also to stock up on school lunch supplies. While picking up items from the Costco August Coupon Book, I also spotted some other deals and items worth mentioning.
Costco already has a good selection of Halloween Costumes on the floor. Mostly Disney princess character dresses (with wigs and accessories) for $18.99. They also have a variety of Avengers and super heroes. Sizes seem to range from 4-10 mostly.
Every year I see these and think – that’s a great deal, we should get one of these. And then I don’t. Then I wait until it’s closer to Halloween and then Costco no longer has the sizes or costumes that my kids want. So I did it. I bit the bullet today and bought my daughter the Tangled princess costume for $18.99. It’s officially the earliest I’ve ever purchased a Halloween Costume. But this is what she wants to be and now I don’t have to run around town looking for it in October. Plus Costco has a sweet return policy if she changes her mind or I find a better deal. I hung the costume outta sight, outta mind, so it doesn’t get played with beforehand. It comes with a pretty awesome wig and other accessories – totally worth the price, I think.
I can’t believe Costco has Christmas stuff in stock already! It was only a handful of decorations, but it has started, folks.
It was strategically placed next to an aisle full of toys.
I spotted Stride Rite Socks, 8 packs, for $6.99 after a $2 instant rebate!
Kid’s Western Chief Rain Jackets – $16.99. This is a pretty awesome deal. See Amazon’s Western Chief Rain Jackets for price comparison and other styles.
I’ve never seen this at Costco before – The Honest Company Shampoo and Body Wash! It’s paraben-free and looks pretty great. Do any of you buy this? I’m wondering what you think!
Scotch Glue Stick 24-packs – $4.99 after $1.50 instant rebate. This makes them only $0.20 cents each.
See our recent posts on Costco – School Supply Deals and Costco August Coupons. Remember that Costco inventory, selection and prices vary by locations. These were spotted at the Lacey, Washington Costco on August 13.

I bought the Honest body wash and I really like it. The scent is mild. I haven’t tried it as a shampoo, but I like it as a body wash.

@Julie We are a family of 3 and have a Costco membership. We love it! We go there all the time for their produce, almond milk, bread, grains, etc. It’s a great way to buy organic and natural foods at a great price.
FYI – I purchased those Stride Rite socks for my son a few months ago. I couldn’t believe how quickly he wore through them! I’ve had better luck with no-name socks from Target. I won’t be purchasing those socks again.

Can someone please convince me why Costco is a good deal? I would like to join, but worry that I won’t use the store enough to cover the membership fee. We’re a family of four and I am not sure if buying in bulk would work for us. Are there other small families that love what costco has to offer? What do you typically buy? Thanks for your time!

My husband and I have a baby and we think our Costco membership is worth it. We buy Kirkland diapers and formula there (I’m no longer BFing). I frequently get a rotisserie chicken when I’m there; $4.99/3 lbs is a frugal price for a take out dinner that yields leftovers. I also really like Kirkland’s whole bean coffee and it’s roasted by Starbucks; it is $10.99/2 lbs and I’ve never seen it for less than that per ounce with coupons and sales. I like Kirkland TP, too. I think a roll lasts longer than all the other brands so at $0.50/double roll, it is a great value. Kirkland garbage bags are $0.07/each and I have yet find a sale with coupons that beats that price. For our daughter’s baptism party, I bought a deli tray, croissants, and a sheet cake that would have cost far more a Fred Meyer, even if I had done the deli tray on my own.
Not everything at Costco is a great deal, but we feel we get enough value out of our member to make the $55/year worth it.

We are a family of four (soon to be 5) and have had a membership since it was just my husband and I as newlyweds. Granted, I grew up going to Costco and didn’t coupon until a few years ago, and so I had it in my head that “anything at Costco is a great deal.” It’s NOT! BUT- there are MANY great deals that make the membership worth it throughout the year. We have a large dog and I purchase all of our dog food there. The most important thing to do is know what is a good price point for any given item. I am a busy mom, and so I sometimes give up a slightly better price with coupons, etc. to just buy it in bulk at Costco. Things I always buy- certain condiments/spices/cooking oils/etc.; dairy products like cheese (I like the good stuff that’s rarely got coupons) and half and half; gasoline; tortilla chips; I could go on…. Oh, and you can’t beat the $1.50 hot dog/soda for lunch 😉
