$79. That’s a lot of money. But I pay it, every year, for Amazon Prime’s service. I think it easily pays for itself – and it only comes out to $6.58 a month! I get a lot of questions about Amazon Prime so I thought I’d share why I think it’s such an awesome deal!
FAST shipping – I love getting my items in two days. This is especially nice when I forget to order diapers or wipes and I need them, um, like yesterday! You get FREE two-day shipping on all eligible orders (which I found is most items).
No MINIMUM – My absolute favorite feature of Amazon Prime. If I find a $0.99 toy, I get it shipped for FREE. I don’t have to opt for subscribe and save (although I like the extra 15% discount) because it’s shipped FREE thanks to Prime. A lot of great deals require a $25 minimum purchase. If you’re always throwing an extra item into your cart to reach the minimum shipping threshold, you might as well invest that in the prime membership.
When you are shopping, you can narrow your search on the left side of the screen selecting only items that are Prime eligible – so it makes it easy, you’ll see all the options that would ship FREE with your membership.
Send to ANYONE – I have a lot of family in Alaska. On nearly every online retailer they charge you more to ship to Alaska. Not Amazon. I could order a $2 item and have it shipped right to my sister in Alaska. For FREE. Or sending baby wipes to my friend in Florida who just had a baby. Great deal AND free to ship. I find it’s a lot easier to just order and ship then to order something online, have it shipped to me, repackage, go to the post office, mail again. Seems like too many steps (and extra expenses) – I like just logging in, ordering and having it shipped for FREE to the recipient.
NEW! Video/TV streaming – One of their newest features is unlimited, commercial-free, instant streaming of thousands of videos for FREE when you have an Amazon Prime account. You can see all the Amazon prime eligible movies and television listed here. If you have a web-enabled television with an Amazon app, you can watch the Amazon Prime movies on your TV. Just like streaming Netflix, but without the additional costs!
If you want to give it a try, they do have a FREE trial for Amazon Prime that allows you try it out. Just make sure and cancel if you decide you don’t like it, otherwise, it automatically turns into a full one-year membership at $79. As long as Amazon Prime is priced at $79, I think I’ll pay it. It’s only $6.58 a month, for FREE shipping from my favorite retailer.
What do you think?

TOTALLY agree!! We’ve paid for Amazon Prime for a few years now & we LOVE it!
For me one of the best perks to Amazon Prime is the Thanksgiving week / Black Friday deals. Last year we scored dozens of amazing deals on Amazon & never had to worry about the price of shipping or making a minimum order to achieve free shipping… whenever a new deal popped up, I simply ordered it… & all 50+ packages arrived within 2 business days of when they were ordered! The savings from that week alone more than paid for my membership for the entire year!

Great post, I have been wiffle waffling around about signing up for Amazon Prime for awhile. I will have to give it another look, especially with the holidays coming up.

yeah i forgot to turn off auto renewal but decided it was worth it since i have had some things that werent right and had t return but its way more convenient to return them to amazon than to run around town with a baby to the store again just to return something that didnt work out. if i had to pay shipping up front and shippng to return it wouldnt be worth the convenience on that and if I had to wait more than the 2 days to get the item it wouldnt be so worth the convenience but I have found myself buying floating shelves for my photos and all kinds of stuff because shopping around from store to store with a baby is not convenient at all and now after what I went through with her dad I have PTSD so getting out and about is even harder on me so sometimes the comfort and safety of my home is a great place to shop!

I work for Amazon and LOVE the prime membership!!! Just thought I would add if anyone is a student you can sign up for Amazon Student if you have a .edu email address. It gives you Prime for 6 mos fre, but make sure to turn off the auto renewal feature. I think you can do this for up to four times 🙂

Totally agree. I initially got Amazon Prime for free as a student, but when my subscription was up I gladly paid the $79. I keep forgetting about the streaming videos. I need to check those out.

I completely agree! I did the trial version of Amazon Prime at Christmas last year and it was wonderful. I then decided to purchase it a couple of months ago due to needing a handful of items for an event. I paid off my $79 in just a few orders and I haven’t even started to shop for Christmas yet. I absolutely love being a Prime Member and because I get most items in two days, I would rather wait then tackle the mall. I also am thinking of getting the new Kindle Fire when it comes out and I can download Amazon Videos for free. Currently we download Amazon videos to our computer and it is a great added bonus to being a Prime Member. Bottom Line..if you like shopping online, if you are too busy or hate dealing with the mall or crowds, if you like the idea of receiving things in two days (for free) and you like free video streaming…Amazon Prime is for you!!! Once you have it, you will not want to go without it! :0)

I’ve had Amazon Prime and NEVER paid for it! If you’re a member of Amazon Moms you get it extended everytime you spend money on baby things.

We are planning on signing up for Prime this month and dropping Netflix. I’m also VERY excited for the free 2 days shipping, mostly for the diapers and wipses! It’s so convenient.
