Slow Cooker Crockpot Coca-Cola Beef Roast recipe (simple)

I don’t know what it is, but people love pouring Coke on meat in the Crockpot. I think the Pioneer Woman is probably to thank for this sweet trick – so thank you Ree. Next time you’re in town, I’d love to have you over for dinner and oh, sure – you can cook, that would be awesome!

Truth be told, I actually ended up making this recipe up – it’s very, very simple. I had received different variations of beef roast recipes from some of you – so I ended up adding ingredients that I had and leaving out ingredients that I didn’t. This roast was incredibly tender and I liked the slightly sweet flavor that came from the Coke. It was a big hit with the handsome husband.

Beef roast of some kind. I look for cheap cuts. They will be in the slow cooker so long they usually tenderize just perfectly. Ask your butcher if you’re uncertain what kind of roast to buy.

2 cans of Coca-Cola (I bet Dr. Pepper would be good, too)

Lipton Recipe Secrets, Onion
Amazon actually has a pretty decent deal on these – Lipton Recipe Secrets, Onion, 2Count 2Ounce Boxes (Pack of 6)

Onions, quartered

Carrots, roughly chopped (or use baby carrots for ease)

Potatoes, quartered

Salt and Pepper to taste

  1. Place beef roast into crockpot. If it has a fatty layer on it, I usually try and put that on top, so it drips down through meat to moisturize.
  2. Sprinkle chopped vegetables around the roast in the slow cooker.
  3. Pour two Coca-Colas over roast into slow cooker
  4. Sprinkle one package of Lipton Recipe Secrets Onion on top of the roast
  5. Cook on high for 8-10 hours or until meat is falling apart and your vegetables are tender

What is your favorite way to make beef roasts in the Crockpot? I’ve also made a similar recipe, but instead of Coca-Cola you can add a can of crushed tomatoes.

This is the best way to make wild Canada goose breast—coke and an onion, slow cook for 5 hours at 275! Make gravy out of the drippings along with mashed potatoes and cooked carrots and it’ll fool anyone into thinking it’s roast beef.

  2. I am wondering if diet coke would work….. I’ll try it and post my results!!

    • You really should use class coke. The carbonation and acidity of the coke helps to tenderize the meat and the sugar really adds a beautiful level of sweetness to the meat. In the end, the calories you’re adding to the roast are very small and the flavor is much better using class coke.

    • Will sprite work

  3. I used a three pound roast and it was done in 6 – 7 hours! I also used one packet of onion soup before pouring the coke on then used another packet so it would season the veggies too!

  4. Says cook on high 8-10 hours….did you mean low???

  5. Amazing recipe! I had raves for this, with a few variations I made up.

I used the onion soup and the 2 cans of Coke. I dredged and seared the roast in a Dutch oven after about an hour in the slow cooker. When I started out I had some fresh garlic scapes left over so I put them in the bottom of the crock pot and the Coke and meat over it. After I seared the meat I put it back in the cooker and left the scapes. I also added some corn that I had left on the cob and about 1 fresh chopped onion.

After a few more hours slow cooking I gave it a taste and it seemed a little bland. So I added a decent amount of thyme and some Paul Prudhomme seafood seasoning (Cajun I guess). I had seen a few recipes that said add sour cream to the crock pot for a few hours to make the gravy so I went that route. I gave it a shot of Siracha Rooster Sauce. I know, I know…it’s a little off the page from where I started. Anyway the result was a super moist roast that sliced perfectly and the gravy was golden and really unique and delicious, a savory flavor where the heat of Siracha and the sweet of Coke balanced out. Served it over buttered mashed potatoes and the gravy with a fresh garden salad. This wet straight to the clean plate club list! I’d definitely make that one again. Thanks for the ideas!

  6. The best people pleasing roast I’ve ever made is chuck roast sprinkled with lemon-pepper seasoning, brown it in bacon grease. Meanwhile, in small bowl, mix 1 can golden mushroom soup, 1/2 cup chopped dill pickles, 2 tsp Worcestershire sauce.
Place browned roast in crockpot. Pour sauce mix over top and cook for 6-8 hours.
Let us know how much you loved it because I know you will be suprised how delicious it is and so tender! I’m always asked for the recipe.

  7. I am trying this with moose tomorrow. Hope it turns out!

  8. What cut of beef roast did you use 🙂

  9. Alexis Johnson says

My favorite pot roast in crock pot is with 1 packet Italian dressing, 1 packet brown gravy, 1 packet ranch and 1 cup water! Makes the best gravy ever in crockpot!!

  10. Man I miss roast! My dad was famous for putting the bottle or can of unfinished beer that wasnt as tasty as he had hoped (he brews his own!) or a half bottle of wine that was not a favorite. Best roast ever! He was also a frugal meat buyer and marinated everything over night. We never missed out on taste! Serve with some beer bread and you have a yummy meal you can’t wait to have leftovers the next day!

  11. I’ve never tried coke. I did use root beer once for a pork roast (then drained it , shredded it, and used a bottle of bbq sauce for pulled pork). I might have to try this!
