Rise and Shine is my way of sitting down and having a cup of coffee with you! We talk about the new deals of the day, highlights from yesterday, and anything else that might help us save time, money or energy.
Good morning! How’s it going today? The sunshine yesterday was a welcomed change here in the Northwest – wasn’t it beautiful? Did you do anything fun?
We took advantage of the nice weather to have a window replaced on the side of our house – which turned out to be a much bigger project than expected. We have water damage so bad that we’re having to replace the siding on one whole side of our house. It’s going to be expensive and not glamorous at all. When you drop a pretty penny on a house repair project you hope to at least have a new kitchen, flooring or a remodeled bathroom. Not this. Just replacing what’s already there – but doing it the right way, like it should have been done to begin with. When things like this happen – there is so much that is out of my control – all I can do is try to find the silver lining. I’m grateful that we have a home, grateful that we have some savings, grateful for nice weather to fix it – and really just trying not to think about how I could have spent that money. 🙂
This siding project had me scrambling so much yesterday that I didn’t get a chance to plant my seed starts. My Hydrofarm JSV4 4-Foot Jump Start T5 Grow Light System and Hydrofarm CK64050 Germination Station with Heat Mat came in the mail yesterday and I did get those set up in the garage. Hopefully today I can plant something!
We were completely out of coffee filters – so I stopped into Safeway – I need my coffee! I found these discounted Safeway brand juices on markdown – 50% off the last marked price, so $1.25 each, I bought four. They have a best buy date of March 14 – so I have a couple days and I plan to freeze the juice in ice trays, so that I can use them for smoothies! I’ll share more about this later – but this is a great idea when you find marked down juice. Freeze into cubes, pop out and place in bags, then toss into the blender when you are making a smoothie (also good for recipes that call for orange juice!)

Thanks for the idea about freezing juice in cubes – never thought about that!
Paula Snyder says
Thanks for sharing! So sorry about your house project that took on a life of it’s own! It is discouraging, but keep the big picture in mind-you are preventing future damage. 🙂
Heather Clarke says
Thanks Paula, it’s true! There were some less expensive options, but fast forward 10 to 20 years and it would have started to deteriorate again. We plan on selling before then – but we knew that the right thing to do was fix it the right way. 🙂 So that’s another silver lining – it’s being done right and will be guaranteed not to be a problem for us and anyone who we sell the house to.
