There are some pretty predictable trends when it comes to food sales and coupons. Typically they run on a three-month cycle, but not always. Based on sales from the last two years, these are the kinds of items we can hopefully find on SUPER sale this November and December. These are the items I expect to be at their rock-bottom prices, so you’ll want to stock up on them if you find a good deal.
- Broth (chicken, vegetable, beef) – There was a $1/1 Imagine Organic broth coupon in the 10/16 Smart Source. Right now you can get Imagine Organic broth for $0.50 each at Whole Foods. Last year we scored it as low as $0.49 at QFC and I’m hoping we’ll see similar sales this year. We should see other brands on sale as well.
- Canned vegetables – We’ve already started to see the canned vegetables sales start. $0.30 to $0.50 a can for brand named vegetables is fairly common this time of year.
- Soups – Lots of sales on canned soups and generally lots of coupons, too.
- Whole turkeys – The cheapest prices of the year will be in November and December. Stock up when you find them on markdown (because they have an overstock) or when they are on super sale – then put them in the freezer for a later date.
- Baking ingredients – We should see rock-bottom prices for chocolate chips, flour, sugar and other baking essentials.
- Boxed crackers – Wheat Thins, Ritz, any kind of cracker seems to go on sale this time of year.
- Cream cheese – Maybe it’s because of all the dips. I’m not sure, but it seems like this time of year is good for buying cream cheese. (Mix with some smoked salmon, chives and garlic powder and you’ll have a major hit at your next football game or holiday party).
- Refrigerated cookie doughs – Sales and coupons should start popping up on these to make them around $1 or less. If you find a great deal, I believe these can be frozen.
- Chili – Canned chili products are generally on sale this time of year.
- Apple juice – Maybe it’s the cider season – but stores generally start to drop the price on apple juice this time of year.
- Seasonings – Both the savory type seasonings and the baking extracts should be on sale over the next couple months.
- Medicines – Flu and cold season bring great discounts on cold and flu medicines. We should be seeing some higher value coupons as well.
- Cool Whip – One of the few times of the year when you can find it for under $1. This can also be frozen.
