Rise and Shine is my way of sitting down and having a cup of coffee with you! We talk about the new deals of the day, highlights from yesterday, and anything else that might help us save time, money or energy. Published Monday through Friday – as I’m able.
Good morning! How’s it going this morning? Only five more days until September. It still feels like mid-summer here with the weather being so warm.
Last night I made a new slow cooker meal for dinner and it ended up being a big hit. I started with this recipe for Angel Chicken. And because we had a lot of baby bella mushrooms in the fridge, I sliced them and sautéed those up in a little olive oil and garlic before adding them to the slow cooker – I think it makes a huge difference in the flavor. I also used regular cream cheese (8 oz), 1/3 cup of wine, cream of chicken soup and I didn’t brown the chicken ahead of time because it was frozen. I don’t think you can mess this one up. I shredded the chicken and served over rice. I wish it didn’t have so much sodium/packaged items in it – and I bet I can modify the recipe more when I have more time, but it worked for last night!
A lot of times I’ll do a Google search with some of the key ingredients I want to use and try something new. Then I modify based on what I have or don’t have in the house. Do you ever do this? What did people do before they were able to Google cooking advice? 😉
After dinner, the kids and I watched Heidi with Shirley Temple. I watched so many Shirley Temple movies when I was little and it was fun to watch this with my kids. My son said, “I loved it, even if it was all black and white!” And I love the lesson that Heidi shares, if you want something enough – you can do it! It’s free right now on Amazon Prime. What are some of your favorite Amazon Prime movies?

Don’t forget the clearance sectionS! At my (Kingston, WA) Albertson’s yesterday I found Wild Harvest organic peanut butter for $2 each! That’s $1 after the printable coupon, a stock-up price for non-organic. They had the creamy and chunky, the only kind I saw on the shelf was the natural style, so they may all be discontinuing those kinds.
