Rise and Shine is my way of sitting down and having a cup of coffee with you! We talk about the new deals of the day, highlights from yesterday, and anything else that might help us save time, money or energy.
Good morning! How was your weekend? Although I know the weather is downright miserable and unpredictable in most of the country, the Northwest has been gorgeous!
Filling the red wagon with little birch twigs from lots of wind this winter. That scooter in the foreground – $3 from a garage sale last summer. One of the best $3 purchases I ever made. 🙂 Love finding garage sale deals and can’t wait for them to get into full swing this Spring!
The kids played outside for nearly three hours Saturday afternoon – good for everyone’s soul. The warm weather was a gentle tease to the spring that I hope comes soon – especially since I can’t wait to start getting my garden in the ground.

I know it’s a bit early in the day to talk about such delicacies, but one of our sweet neighbors came over last night and said she ordered 10 yards of horse manure. But apparently that’s a lot of sh. . shoveling. And they don’t need that much. So they said to help ourselves! 🙂 I’ve never used it as a garden supplement before (remember I’m a newbie and mostly just use chicken stuff). Has anyone mixed horse manure into your raised beds before? I’m wondering if there are any tips – I don’t want to add too much. Thanks for your tips.
I think next Saturday might be the return of my Saturday in the Garden posts which I publish through October. Basically it’s just me sharing what I’m doing in the yard, garden and chicken coop.
And did you see that we brought back our chicken coop features!?!! Every Saturday I’ll be posting a new chicken coop. I think it’s fun to see all the styles and designs. This weekend I featured Karen’s beautiful red chicken coop in Newberg, Oregon! If I feature your coop you’ll get a $10 Amazon.com gift card! Here are all the details for sending in your coop.
I’m super excited to bring back our Deals to Meals post each Sunday! We have organized menu ideas based on specific stores – so you can either look for meals you like and shop that store, or if you’re store-loyal you’ll have ideas that will make the most of the sales!
In case you missed the news this weekend, the price of Forever stamps jumped from from 46 cents to 49 cents. This was effective January 26, 2014.

I am with you Heather!!!! Can’t wait for garage sale season to start up again. Garage sales are even more exciting than couponing to me if you could believe such a thing!!! With my daughter leaving in the fall for college, we plan on getting everything she could possibly need from garage sales. ( : Also, with your help, my other daughter who went to college 3 years ago has never had to pay for a single health and beauty product thanks to you and your blog.
