Rise and Shine is my way of sitting down and having a cup of coffee with you! We talk about the new deals of the day, highlights from yesterday, and anything else that might help us save time, money or energy. Published Monday through Friday – as I’m able.
Good morning! Woke up early this morning to an inbox full of Black Friday deals and alerts. I love a good deal – but it’s starting earlier and earlier every year! The big news is that Amazon Black Friday deals start tomorrow, November 21. The deals will run for eight days (and then Cyber Monday starts) – with new deals rolling out every 10 minutes. If you shop Amazon you can expect a BUNCH of posts from me over the next two weeks. If you don’t love Amazon, be patient, the madness will be over before we know it.
The Amazon Gold Box deal of the day today is 50% off Learning Resources toys! Prices start around $10 and these highly rated toys are rarely discounted this much. In fact, most of these toys are the best price they’ve ever been on Amazon.
Yesterday I shared my very favorite type of Advent calendar – the 24 books of Christmas Advent calendar. I love this because it promotes literacy, encourages family reading time every night, can be done really frugally (pick up books at thrift stores and reuse books every year) and it celebrates Christmas every night with a related story. Check out my 24 books of Christmas Advent calendar here.
Last night for dinner, I roasted a turkey, with sides of mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce and green beans! It turned out delicious. I don’t do anything fancy. I rub it with olive oil, minced fresh garlic and diced rosemary. Then I put half an onion and a big bunch of fresh rosemary in the cavity. Roast at 325 for as long as the turkey experts say. If it starts getting too brown on the top, I cover with tin foil. Use a meat thermometer to make sure it’s cooked all the way through. I had a 12-pounder and it took about 3-ish hours. My mother-in-law is making the Thanksgiving dinner next week (I’m bringing my grandma’s rolls and these roasted root vegetables), so I wanted to make an early meal so we could have leftovers this busy weekend.
My favorite is the mashed potatoes – when I make them, I boil the peeled, whole garlic cloves with the diced potatoes! It helps infuse the flavor in the potatoes and they are softened so they mash right in at the end. I add butter, shredded parmesan and sour cream to my potatoes.
I’m still accepting entries for the Albertsons Cheese Board giveaway – you could win an Albertsons cheese basket (valued around $100), plus I’m throwing in a $50 Albertsons gift card. Pretty sweet, huh? Get the details here
