TODAY is the last day to get this promotion! Also the last day to get $0.49 Quaker Oat cereal.
I posted this deal as part of my Safeway Shopping trip report, but it’s so good I wanted to highlight it by itself. What makes it great is it requires NO coupons up front. Which makes this a great deal for beginning couponers.
6 California Kitchen pizzas, personal size – @ 2.50 each = $15
Used in-ad coupon for $5 off $15 frozen food purchase
(The $1 California Kitchen coupon in the Safeway Frozen Food Coupon Book is for the bigger sizes, so I didn’t use any coupons. Some regions received $1/1 coupons, we did not.)
Pay out of pocket = $10 for the six pizzas
PLUS get six (6) catalinas for $1.25 off you next purchase! That’s $7.50 off your next order! So it’s like paying $2.50, which makes them only $0.42 cents each.
Now I haven’t personally tried this, but I’m wondering if you couldn’t do a second transaction:
6 California Kitchen pizzas, personal size – @ 2.50 each = $15
Used in-ad coupon for $5 off $15 frozen food purchase
Use your (6) $1.25 coupons
Pay out of pocket = $3 for the six pizzas
Get six (6) coupons for $1.25 off your next purchase?
BIG DISCLAIMER HERE – I haven’t tried to use the $1.25 catalinas from the first transaction of pizzas to buy a second set. I have no idea if it will again spit out six more $1.25 catalinas. Anyone brave enough to try it and wanna let me know? Otherwise, I might go back tomorrow and give it a go. If it does roll – we’d have FREE pizza. 🙂 And not just the Tostinos kind, but what appears to be a yummy, rather expensive kind!
(UPDATE – I heard from a reader who was able to ROLL the catalinas into multiple deals!)
I think the catalina prints until 3/20/11!
(Thanks, SD!)
Jacquelyn says
I could not use my catalinas because they are a manufacture coupon from Cal Pizza’s and the coupon in the March Freeze Month book is also a manufacture coupon. It says it across the top. They would not ring up. So I received mine for 5 @ $7.78 and I received back 5 $1.25 catalina coupons value of $6.25
So I did this twice and bought 10 pizzas for a total of
$15.56 – 12.50 (in catalina coupons) = $3.06 or .30 cents a pizza. I then turned around and bought a gallon of Organic Milk and used a $1.25 coupon. I will use the other coupons when I go back. They expire 3/18

Did 2 transactions today at Safeway and got 12 total catalinas so it worked for me! I used the self-checkout. My Safeway has a self-checkout that accepts coupons without even having to call anyone over to help so no worries about a less-than-helpful cashier. Also, the catalinas spit out before I had even paid so I got to use them on my first and second transaction! Less out of pocket.
Celia Husmann says
Haven’t read the comments yet but Safeway CAT deals (along with most grocery store deals) always “roll”, it’s the WAG RR’s that don’t/
Mary says
I’m discovering more and more that if there is any kind of “denial” by the clerk I just leave the product involved behind and put my groceries in the car. Then I come back in and use the self checkout.
Jennifer says
I’m new to this and my catalina’s didn’t print – is there a number I can call to get them?
Celia Husmann says
Yes, call 1-800-COUPONS and have your receipt handy!

First time I went on Sunday my cashier would not let me do 2 transaction she said I could not do that, So left 2nd order and Went back the next day and the cashier said I could do as many as I wanted.I guess it just depends on your cashier, I wish they could all be on the same page.
Emily says
Your pizza deal is even better than you thought because your math is a little off. 🙂 $10 oop – $7.50 back in cats means your actual cost is only $2.50 for six pizzas, not $3.50. Price per pizza is $0.42.
Heather says
Doh! I’m glad someone is checking my math! 🙂 Thank you for the heads up I can’t believe I didn’t notice that! I updated the post. Glad it’s a better deal.
Mary says
The only store I’m aware of that won’t let you do it is Walgreens. It doesn’t mention anything in their coupon policy. Just make sure to print out the Safeway coupon policy (http://www.safeway.com/ifl/grocery/coupons-policy) and you’ll be fine! Good luck!
Mary says
That’s good to know. At QFC you can only use one catalina per transaction.
Heather says
My QFC doesn’t limit catalina use? They are just like manufacturer coupons so you should be able to use more than one per transaction. Unless the catalina specifically says “one per transaction”.
Danielle says
I did the deal four times on Monday at Safeway and rolled the catalinas each time.
Heather says
oooh! Good to know Danielle! Holding out on us, huh? 🙂 Just kidding. Thank you for the tip!
Jessie says
I did this deal on Sunday and it worked for me. I had 3 transactions. The first 2 trans I had 3 Cali Pizzas and both trans it printed out the 1.25 (x3). The coupons didn’t state you had to use it the next day. I love my Randalls.
Shannon says
It might work. You are able to do that at Rite Aid and Walgreens. What does it say on the Catalina coupon? Does it state one coupon per transaction, per item? yadda yadda yadda? 🙂
Heather says
It doesn’t really state anything like that. Just Save $1.25 on your next order. Let’s hope!
Robyn says
After speaking with a safeway manager, it sounds like the second purchase would work if it was done on a seperate day
Heather says
On a separate day? Why would the day matter? Thanks for chatting with a Safeway manager to try and figure it out.
